În perioada 2003-2007, Suzanne Collins a scris o serie de cărţi numită: The underland chronicles al cărei personaj principal este Gregor un băiat de 11 ani. Seria conţine 5 cărţi:
1. The underland chronicles 1 – Gregor the overlander
It’s the beginning of summer and everyone is going off to camp except Gregor, an 11-year-old boy from New York City. Since his father’s disappearance from their New York City home, he has been helping out with taking care of his little sisters, especially two-year-old Boots. Gregor sacrifices his chance to go to camp, letting his other sister go instead. While doing laundry in the basement of his apartment building, Boots disappears down an air chute and Gregor goes after her. At the bottom of this inner-city rabbit hole, the two find themselves in the Underland surrounded immediately by giant cockroaches, or crawlers. The story moves quickly as the two Overlanders are taken to the Queen of the Underlander humans, where Gregor learns of a prophecy which focuses on him and a quest to find his missing father. He travels with bats, crawlers, spinners (giant spiders), a rat, and two of the royal Underlanders. Gregor spends his time between protecting Boots, who doesn’t know she needs to be protected, and becoming the leader of the questors who must not only save his father, but also save the Underlanders’ kingdom.
2. The underland chronicles 2 – Gregor and the prophecy of bane
It takes a bit of time to catch up on characters and events from the first book, but enough hints are dropped along the way to make this accessible to new listeners. Gregor is an Overlander, an 11-year-old who lives in New York City. Boots, his toddler sister, disappears into the Underland, a vast world beneath the city thats populated by enormous bats, cockroaches, and rats, while sledding in Central Park. Gregor knows he must return to the strange underground kingdom of Regalia to rescue her. Boehmer gives each character a distinctive voice, and he has the tone and timing of toddler Boots down perfectly. His voice reflects the change in Gregor as he matures under the weight of his responsibilities.
3. The underland chronicles 3 – Gregor and the curse of the warmbloods
This third book continues the saga of Gregor’s adventures in the amazing subterranean world under New York City. This time the 11-year-old is trying to save victims of an Underland plague, including Ares, his giant bat bond-mate, and Gregor’s own mother. The quest for the cure takes the boy and his friends into new sections of the Underland where plants are carnivorous and a giant lizard serves as a guide. The Overlander is again joined on his quest by Boots, his toddler sister; Ripred, the rat; and Temp, the giant cockroach. As before, the quest is guided by a prophecy that only becomes clear in the later stages of the book.
4. The underland chronicles 4 – Gregor and the marks of secret
Gregor and his sister Boots are regular visitors to Underland, where their mother is slowly recovering from injuries incurred in the previous episode. Gregor is supposed to be studying echolocation with his rat friend, Ripred the Gnawer, but hes doing very badly. Ripred has his own problems, largest of which is Bane, the once-sweet little baby Gnawer whom the protagonist refused to kill in Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane. Bane, now a half-grown monster of a rat, is surprisingly charismatic yet emotionally stunted and easily controlled by the forces of evil. When Queen Luxa gets a message that the mice that saved her life in the jungle are in trouble, she and Gregor head out to investigate, accompanied by her cousin Howard, several bats, Gregors sisters, and a brave cockroach named Temp.
5. The underland chronicles 5 – Gregor and the code of claw
Everyone in the Underland has been taking great pains to keep The Prophecy of Time from Gregor. Gregor knows it must say something awful but he never imagined just how awful: It calls for the warrior’s death. Now, with an army of rats approaching, and his mom and sister still in Regalia, Gregor the warrior must gather up his courage to help defend Regalia and get his family home safely. The entire existence of the Underland is in Gregor’s hands, and time is running out. There is a code to be cracked, a mysterious new princess, Gregor’s burgeoning dark side, and a war to end all wars.

Pe gigantica mea listă de cărţi ce urmează a fi cumpărate se află şi Focul din adânc. Astăzi, căutând informaţii despre cărţi de prin străinătate am dat peste The fire within (numele original al cărţii). De parcă nu aş fi fost deja obişnuit cu atâtea continuări lăsate baltă de editurile noastre, în special CJ, azi am găsit încă o serie a cărei continuări probabil nu o voi citi niciodată. Seria are până acum 5 volume (nu ştiu dacă o să mai apară şi altele), iar coperţile sunt foarte faine (mie unul îmi plac mult)…Sper ca cei de la CJ să continue seria, deşi nu cred că o s-o facă.
